A 3D Tower Defense game from Flowerpot Games

Welcome to the Canyon of Desolation

Welcome, welcome!
It’s so good of you to come.

What’s that? You’re wondering just what all the fuss is about?

Well that’s easy .. we’re making a lot of fuss about our new game – Canyon of Desolation!

You’ll have to speak up, I can’t hear you over all the fanfare.
You want to know about Canyon of Desolation?
I’m glad you asked!

Canyon of Desolation is a 3D Tower Defense game with heavy RPG elements set somewhere in the world of Shadows of Nightside.

Yes, yes, I can hear you … you want to know more.
Ok then … Step right this way!

Tower Defense? What’s that?

Just to get it out of the way and so we’re all on the same page, here’s how wikipedia defines tower defense games:

Tower defense or TD is a subgenre of real-time strategy computer games. The goal is to try to stop enemies from crossing the map by building towers which shoot at them as they pass. Enemies and towers usually have varied abilities and costs. When an enemy is defeated the player earns money or points, which are used to buy or upgrade towers.

What is CoD?

Now that that’s cleared up, let’s get down to business. :)

In CoD (Canyon of Desolation), you are a lieutenant in the Shadow’s Horde and are chosen to defend a key outpost in a remote canyon from the invading forces of good. You’ll be able to place different, specialized units along the canyon walls to launch attacks on the invaders. Unit upgrades can be purchased using a flexible upgrade tree.

You’ll also be able to attract Heroes to your cause. These Heroes will stay with you across the different maps and gain experience as they slaughter the invaders. You can then spend this on enhancements to make your Heroes even more powerful.

And what would Heroes be without powerful magic items? That’s right .. only hollow shells of themselves. So to keep the Heroes from crying, CoD will also have mighty artifacts you can equip your heroes with.

CoD? I thought you were working on SoN

We are. We’re actually working on both.

There are a number of reasons we feel we need to do this project while working on SoN.

The main reason being momentum. I know people are getting impatient waiting for SoN, and the way things are working out, it will be quite a few months before we get to an alpha stage with SoN. CoD has a smaller scope and we can get it to an alpha stage much faster. Hopefully this will give you something to play while we continue work on SoN. And as most of the code needed for this is either already done or can be used in SoN, it won’t slow down the work on SoN by much.

Another reason, although a secondary one, is revenue. We hope that we can charge a nominal fee for CoD, say $5 to $10, to help offset the costs involved with producing SoN.

And finally, it’ll give us a crash course in actually producing a finished game, which in turn will make it that much easier when SoN is released.

I guess that makes sense. So what’s next?

In the coming weeks, we’ll be releasing more info about CoD as well as fixing up this site. If things stay on schedule, we should have CoD ready for Alpha testing sometime in May or June.

So stay tuned for more info!

Ok, so now when will CoD be released?

That actually depends on a lot of factors … but so far we’re still on schedule for an alpha testing release sometime in May.

The biggest unknown right now is the artwork. The people we wanted to work on it got busy with other things (which is understandable, we all have to eat :) ) so we’re in the process of trying to find other talent.

When could we expect the finished CoD game? I would buy anything to help fund SoN!
Are the plans to make SoN a vast game with a huge amount of content?

    Good luck with everything!

Hey Dizzy .. thanks for stopping by and posting.

We’re hoping to have an alpha version of CoD some time soon .. around May or so. If things go well with the alpha and then the beta, we hope to release CoD before the end of the year.

As far as our plans for SoN .. as long as we don’t lose money on it, we plan to continue to host and run SoN while adding as much content as we can think up. :)
